Aimee 'Hearts' One Direction

27th October 2015
As one of seven little heroes who fronted a campaign earlier this year to raise awareness of congenital heart disease, Aimee Brady’s lovely smile could be seen on billboards and buses across Northern Ireland.

And last week, the six year old, who suffers from heart failure, had an even broader smile on her face when she got to meet her pop idols, One Direction.

The Magherafelt girl is a huge fan of the chart-topping boy band and attended one of their gigs at the SSE Arena in Belfast last week, along with mum Valerie. And the little girl, who has had open heart surgery three times, was thrilled when she got to meet the boys backstage on Friday.

Aimee, who was born with a very complex heart defect called double inlet left ventricle and pulmonary atresia, featured in the Children’s Heartbeat Trust’s national campaign Have You Ever Been Heartbroken? a few months ago, helping to raise awareness of congenital heart disease and the work of the Trust.

So she was delighted to be able to present her favourite Harry Styles – and the rest of the band, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson – with special Children’s Heartbeat Trust t-shirts, when she caught up with them for a chat.

Mum Valerie said Aimee was ‘one very happy girl’ after getting to meet the boys, even if she was a bit shy when they kissed and hugged her.

And on Friday night, Harry Styles took to the stage at the SSE Arena, proudly wearing his Children’s Heartbeat wristband.

As the lads might sing, "Perfect”.

Meanwhile the MW Advocate team and Children’s Heartbeat Trust were celebrating on Friday night after winning silver at the CIPR PRide Awards at the Culloden Hotel, in recognition of the integrated 'Ever Been Heartbroken?' campaign.
