NI geared for Fightback Weekend

27th March 2020
Virtual events planned to entertain the public through quarantine
Museums, theatres, cultural centres, and many others will host virtual events this weekend, in a bid to encourage the public to stay home in the fight against Coronavirus.
With efforts to prevent the spread of the virus now reaching a critical stage, cultural organisations are joining the #fightback movement and are working hard to produce a programme of events revellers can enjoy from the comfort of their own homes.
As we enter the second weekend since the closure of all pubs, clubs, restaurants and leisure spaces, event organisers understand fatigue and boredom may be starting to set in, but are urging the public to resist the temptation to flout the government guidelines and continue to #fightback by staying home.
In a change to planned celebrations for World Theatre Day (Friday 27 March) The Mac is partnering with the Royal Court Theatre to make their acclaimed production ofCyprus Avenue  by David Ireland free to watch via Facebook from 12 noon today.
Imagine Belfast concludes its festival of ideas and politics today with over 30 lectures, talks, film shorts and more available to stream from the festival website. Today’s highlights include a talk with political journalist Sam McBride who will discuss his red-hot, bestselling book, Burned.
Those who like to let loose at the weekend and who may be missing their usual trip to the local can enjoy live music being streamed throughout the weekend. Local crooner, Damien McErlean takes to the mic tonight from 8pm with former Rapparee, Joe McKeague covering the same slot on Saturday evening. Both gigs can be watched on the Hatfield House facebook page.
Finally, if you’re weekend isn’t complete without tearing up a dancefloor, then tune into Cool FM on Saturday evening where DJ Hix will be on the decks for a virtual house party.
For more information on other streamed events happening over the #fightbackweekend , follow @FightBackNI on twitter where more details will be posted throughout the weekend or check out culturenorthernireland.org which has a full event listing.
Fight Back NI is an alliance of sports stars, social media influencers and many of NI’s most recognisable faces who have joined forces to reinforce the message to the NI public that they should stay home, wash hands frequently and keep your distance.
