Brendan graduated with an honours degree in Information Management from Queen's University, Belfast in 1990. He established MW Advocate in February 2012. Prior to that he was Managing Director of one of Ireland's largest independent PR and Public Affairs companies. He also worked as Ministerial Special Advisor within the Department of Finance and Personnel and the Department of Employment and Learning for Dr Sean Farren.

Before taking up his role within the NI Executive, Brendan worked with local economic development agency, Ortus. In that time he worked with all statutory funders, including the International Fund for Ireland and the EU bodies, in implementing business development programmes in Belfast.

Brendan has a keen interest in politics and has maintained a wide range of contacts within the political establishments in these islands and is an occasional commentator on local media. He has worked with a wide range of organizations in government, private and voluntary sectors including PlayBoard, Airtricity, Sainsbury's, the Northern Ireland Parades Commission and the World Health Organisation's Belfast Healthy Cities project. He is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Brendan is married with 3 sons. He is a keen sports and music fan, and is a Director of his local parkrun.
